TECHNOLOGY:

Why is technology important in housing?
INTEGER's technology strategy

INTEGER Technology

Why is technology important in housing?

Technology is playing an increasingly important part in all of our lives. Information is becoming the currency of the 21st Century. Intelligent technologies aim to maximise the use of information.

In INTEGER projects, information is required for two purposes: to improve the performance of the building through effective management of heating and lighting, and to help improve the lives of people within the building.

What is integer's Technology Strategy?

From its beginnings, INTEGER has developed a strategic model for the kinds of intelligent features that add value to homes and enhance the lives of those who live within them. Here are some examples of the kinds of technology that could be introduced to an INTEGER home:

Central control - simple central computer control and telephone link for all systems

Energy systems - remote metering, energy read-out, effective heat control

Central locking of doors and windows

Flexible lighting - lighting control may be reconfigured and tailored to user need

Disability systems - video cameras, alarms etc for disabled, elderly, sickness or maternity

Security and safety - intruder alarms, fire alarms, smoke and CO2 detectors integrated with other systems such as lighting and locks

Communications - open multi-media communications infrastructure for TV, telephone and computers

There is no single technology solution that fits all projects. INTEGER believes that while the above technology strategy can be applied to every home, individual solutions must be appropriated to the particular project. In this way systems can be specified, designed and installed to maximise value to all stakeholders.
