How Much Do INTEGER Houses Cost?
INTEGER aims is to deliver higher performance,
better value housing. It is commonly assumed that better housing must
equal more expensive. While small, one-off developments are inevitably
harder and more expensive than conventional housing, due to experience,
volume and economies of scale. However, there are strong indications
that innovative, better performing housing can be delivered within the
budget constraints of standard housing. When lifetime performance benefits
are factored in – such as lower water, energy and servicing costs
- there is no doubt that INTEGER designed houses cost less than traditional
housing in terms of cost per square meter per year.
Having a restricted budget does not mean that innovation cannot be achieved.
As the INTEGER pilot project in Harlow demonstrates, a significant proportion
of the benefits can be achieved by getting the basics correct.
INTEGER Regeneration & Refurbishment
INTEGER has made, and is making, a significant
impact upon the design and performance of new-build housing in the UK.
The next challenge is to apply the INTEGER principles and processes
to regeneration and refurbishment, and this work has now begun with
the INTEGER Westminster Tower Project. This programme also includes
the prospective regeneration of a 7.5 hectare site in Newcastle, incorporating
11 towerblocks and approximately 1000 homes.
